Lexus RES+ App

Visual Design

About the company

Fujitsu Ten Corp. of America is a leading provider of high-quality automotive audio, video, navigation and control systems. In 2011, The UX Group was formed to begin innovative product development specifically targeting the North American marketplace.

Context and challenges

Lexus RES+ was a mobile app that elevates the Lexus driving experience by providing owners the ability to access their vehicle settings remotely. Owners could check their vehicle status, turn on the engine, lock/unlock doors, and locate their vehicles at the touch of a button. As the very first project for Fujitsu Ten’s newly minted UX Group, I was tasked with designing the app to visually evoke a textured and classic feeling, based on the functional specifications provided by engineers.

My role

I took the full ownership of the visual design and the final presentation to the senior stakeholders from Toyota.

Design

Impressive, Elegant, and Lasting.

I aimed to deliver a look that exemplified the new paradigms of the brand: Impressive, Elegant, and Lasting.

The app launched in November 2012 and is available for download on both the Apple App Store and Google Play.

Visual design practices for other brands

After the launch of the application, I was also tasked with executing new visual designs for other automotive brands based on the same functional specs.
